On the evening of May 29, around 7 p.m., Ron Kinkor, the City’s 2nd shift dispatcher received a call for help from a concerned citizen. She had discovered that a small kitten had climbed into a storm sewer drain at the corner of May and Dodge and was unable to get out. She and a young man removed the cover but the kitten became frightened and crawled further into the storm sewer pipe.
When City sewer crew employees Dan Cook and Chris Hanna arrived they quickly ascertained the situation at the scene and tried to find the kitten. They opened the manhole in the street, climbed down into the manhole and saw that the kitten was in the big drainpipe. Hanna safely retrieved the kitten and took it out of harm’s way. The kitten was given to the citizen who later named it Black Angel, as it had black fur with a white face and four white feet.
The City would like to thank these employees for their outstanding effort and their dedication to public service.
