Wichita Mid-Continent Airport Sets All Time Record for Passengers

More than 139,000 people flew in and out of Wichita Mid-Continent Airport in July 2002. That is a 25.2% increase over July 2001.
Passenger volumes have increased steadily since May when AirTran Airways launched daily service to Atlanta and Chicago. Passenger counts increased 8.7% in May and 16.0% in June.
For context, the number of passengers handled by Wichita Mid-Continent Airport during July is more people than the entire population of Topeka, Kansas. The increase in passengers from July 2001 to July 2002 (27,998), is more than the entire population of Emporia, Kansas.
Passengers flying AirTran Airways are a major part of the dramatic increase. In May, 11,275 flew AirTran. In June, AirTran had 17,564 passengers and in July 18,728.
Frontier JetExpress is now offering daily service to Denver and beyond which is expected to lower fares as much as 40% and bring even more passengers to Wichita Mid-Continent Airport.
