With fireworks scheduled to go on sale June 27, the Wichita Fire Department has reviewed and released a list of Fourth of July celebration items approved for use and sale in the City of Wichita. As in recent years, the list includes items classified as toy smoke devices, novelty items, and trick noisemakers.
Items purchased outside of the City may violate the law. The City of Wichita Code prohibits storage, sale, possession or discharge of non-approved fire works or items within the city limits. Violation of this code is punishable by fine and or imprisonment.
“Individuals must use items in the jurisdiction in which they were purchased,” said Chief Bob Thompson. “If you have questions about what fireworks you can purchase, please call us.”
In order to ensure code compliance and citizen safety, Fire Department personnel and Police officers will be out patrolling the city this Fourth of July holiday and will confiscate fireworks and issue citations to those in violation of the City Ordinance.
