The City of Wichita is accepting applications for the 2002 El Paso-Kerry Gooch Scholarship. The scholarship program was established in 1990 in memory of Kerry Gooch, the son of State Senator and former Wichita City Council member Rip Gooch and the late Augusta Gooch. Kerry Gooch died in a plane crash in Conway, Ark., in September 1990.
"It is an honor each year to recognize the academic achievements of the children of City employees," said Susan Leiker, coordinator of the program. "Thanks to the generosity of the El Paso Corporation, this scholarship will be awarded each year to two high school seniors whose parents are employees of the City of Wichita."
High school seniors who have at least one parent working for the City of Wichita are eligible for this scholarship. The El Paso-Kerry Gooch Scholarship pays $2,000 for the first year of undergraduate study at Wichita State University.
Scholarship applications and a complete set of rules may be obtained from the City's Web site, www.wichita.gov, or the Personnel Office, 2nd Floor of City Hall, weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Applications must be returned to the Personnel Office by 5:00 p.m., June 10, 2002.
