The Wichita City Council on Tuesday took several actions to support plans related to redevelopment of the downtown arena area. The actions are designed to assist the next phase of downtown revitalization.
Responding to Sedgwick County’s request for further discussion about arena area redevelopment, the Council:
- Repealed an ordinance establishing a redevelopment district;
- Approved an action to void a city-county construction coordination agreement;
- And agreed to soon schedule meetings with County officials to resolve questions regarding funding, responsibilities and projects related to the downtown arena, or Intrust Arena.
The redevelopment district and the construction-coordination agreement were approved during the Aug. 12 City Council meeting.
After City Council members expressed their support for arena area redevelopment, Mayor Brewer called for the City’s business partners, community leaders and engaged residents to support what he called the next phase of downtown redevelopment.
