The Q-Line Trolley rolls into action Friday, May 30th. It will follow a new route in downtown Wichita and operate under a new schedule according to Wichita Transit and Wichita Downtown Development Corporation.
The new route can be found at www.theqline.com. The new hours of operation are from 6 p.m. to midnight Thursdays and Fridays and from noon to midnight on Saturdays. The trolley service will be offered through Nov 1. Wichita Transit officials expect to see an increase in ridership this year.
“Due to the rising fuel prices, we expect more people to take advantage of the Q-Line services,” Mike Vinson, Wichita Interim Transit Director, said. “You can ride the Q for a quarter to visit any of your favorite downtown restaurants, bars and attractions.”
Downtown businesses are also partnering in the effort to increase public awareness about Q-Line services. Many restaurants, hotels, bars and other businesses will offer brochures, posters and coasters displaying Q-Line information.
The Q-Line trolley is fun and easy to use. Simply wave at the driver and the trolley will pull over to pick you up. Look for the Q markings painted on the sidewalks to find the regular trolley stops. The Q stops at intersections along the route approximately every 20 minutes. Stops include downtown hotels, Century II, Lawrence-Dumont stadium, the Keeper of the Plains and Old Town. The Q-Line will also make stops along the Final Friday art gallery crawl on the last Friday of every month.
The trolley service is funded through a partnership with Wichita Downtown Development Corporation and a Congestion Mitigation Air Quality grant from the Federal Transit Administration.
