City of Wichita's Two Newest Employees
Watson Park is home to two of the City's newest employees! Right from C Arrow Stables, two male ponies were delivered on Tuesday, July 29th. Watson staff said good-bye to Rusty and Gino who were retired to C Arrow Stables where they will begin the process of finding a new home. The ponies were introduced to their fellow colleagues: Peanut, Clarence, Milo, Elvis and Bo. The ponies' names have not be determined yet; stay tuned for more from Watson Park!

The mission of the Park and Recreation Department is to provide a cost-effective system of safe and attractive parks and recreation land, facilities and programs that enhance the beautification of the City, provide for the leisure time pursuits of all Wichita residents and visitors, and promote appreciation of the City’s environmental resources.
The Park and Recreation Department:
- Provides recreational opportunities
- Maintains landscaping at City parks, facilities & along right-of-ways
- Operates a number of cultural and performing arts facilities.
The department supports:
- 4,347 acres of parks and greenways
- 2,407 acres of rights-of-way (medians, highways, arterials and boulevards)
- 10 recreation centers
- 11 swimming pools
- 52 athletic fields
- 5 golf courses
- 8 interactive fountains
- CityArts
- Numerous adult & youth-based activities & athletics programs.

The Park and Recreation Department offers:
- Indoor & outdoor facilities for rental to public and private groups
- A broad range of recreation classes
- Athletic programs
- The Wichita Ice Center
- Special event opportunities.
